| Goldie |
Goldie was ten years old and had been the family pet since she was
just six weeks old. She was very sick and in a lot of pain. She
could hardly walk.
The vet suggested euthanasia and volunteered to make a
house call.
The parents decided it would be best to go ahead and felt that it
would be better for Goldie to die at home where she was loved. The
parents explained to their young son, Kevin, what was going to take
place when the vet visited. They told him that it was sad that dogs
are with us for such a short time.
The vet came and administered the injection. Goldie passed away
peacefully with her family at her side. Kevin petted Goldie the
entire time. He seemed to take it very well and actually smiled
when the vet told them it was over. His parents were very sad and
worried about how Kevin was going to react.
Kevin noticed his parents tears, took their hands and told them,
"It's okay Mommy and Daddy. You see, we're put on earth and it is
our job to learn to love everyone. It takes people a long time
sometimes, but dogs are born loving everyone. So dogs don't have
to be here as long."
